As I was organizing my crochet supplies and reflecting on the journey that has led me to where I am today, a thought struck me: I have so many remnants of yarn that might not be enough for a grand project, but they are still full of potential. It’s tough to discard these bits and bobs because I know they hold the power to create something meaningful.
This realization led to a new mission: turning these leftovers into something special that can bring warmth and comfort to those in need. And thus, the #365BeanieBro challenge was born.
What is the #365BeanieBro Challenge?
Starting on August 18, 2024, I embarked on a mission to craft one beanie each day for an entire year. My goal is to make 730 beanies - doubling my original target—so that I can deliver a substantial gift to someone who truly deserves it. I have a special recipient in mind, a hardworking individual who has dedicated himself to keeping his family safe and secure. While I’m keeping his identity private to honor his dignity, the intention is to use this gift to make a real difference in his life.
How Can You Get Involved?
I’m reaching out to you - my community of crafters, creators, and do-gooders - to join me in this challenge. Whether you knit or crochet, your skills and leftover yarn can be turned into beanies that bring comfort to those who need it most. Here’s how you can participate:
- Create Beanies: Use your yarn remnants to make beanies. One a day, or however many you can manage, will help us reach our goal.
- Share the Challenge: Spread the word by sharing the video about the challenge here and use the hashtag #365BeanieBro on social media. Let’s create a wave of kindness and creativity!
- Document and Share: Post your progress, share stories of the beanies you make, and inspire others to join. Your posts can motivate more people to get involved.

To kick things off, I’ve already made my first two beanies. I’m excited to see how many more we can create together and how far our impact can reach. By next winter, we can be ready with a collection of beanies to distribute, but if you achieve your goals before then, just keep going and pick your next recipient.
